It should sit between your air tank and the valves. This ensures that the air is led dry into your system. Check your water separator regularly and simply drain the collected water with your finger on the valve attached below.

Especially in winter, icy water separators that have not been emptied repeatedly cause problems with the smooth use of the air suspension.
